FAQs

How many sessions will I need?

We can discuss this at your first session.  Generally we agree to meet for 6 sessions and then see how things are going.  You can then decide if you want to come for only a few more sessions or longer, may be up to a year.

How do I pay?

You can pay by cash or cheque at the beginning or end of each session.

How will I feel better?

Talking about your emotions and problems generally makes people feel lighter and less burdened.   I believe that the relationship between us, the client and the counsellor, is one of the most important elements to how therapeutic our work together is.   Some people initially feel more troubled when they talk about their difficulties.  With time this fades and an easier way of being emerges.

Is counselling for everyone?

No.  Some people find that counselling is not beneficial to them.  You may discover this yourself or it may become apparent as we work together.   Being honest with one another is an important part of our work and if I feel I can’t help I will say so.

If you are actively psychotic, have a recent history of violence or have been diagnosed with a serious mental condition your Mental Health team or GP will be better placed to be of help.

Is age a barrier?

I do not work with anyone younger than 18.  I welcome people of all ages above that.
